Paper Hugs

We all love shiny things I think, so this week's challenge at Less is More is a JOY!  Here is my card, which will add to my Christmas stash. Hard to see the shine, but the next view might be better. I die cut the Joy to the World Wreath by Cheery Lyn, and inlaid it back into the white card front.  It seems to suit the CAS style better this way.  The shiny sentiment is cut from silver mirror card, mounted to self adhesive foam - as you can see in the shiny photo - no messy glue to spoil the effect! Week 242 at Less is More has a theme challenge - it is 'Technology'.  The DTs came up with some very creative responses to inspire us, but I went a bit 'retro' with my technology:  it is so simple, I don't think it needs any more said (a first for me??). Hello there - just a quick note to explain the evolving name of my blog:)  In 2012 I started with Cardmaking 101 as I felt such a novice back then, with absolutely no credentials to call myself a crafter, and I was learning so much.  Well, now I'm still a learner (always will be) but I don't feel a novice any more - I feel I have more to offer than that.  So yesterday I tried changing my blog name to 'Creating Smiles' because that's what happens when we send out cards isn't it?  But I felt it had more to do with dentistry than paper crafts, so today I'm at Paper Hugs.  I think I'll stay with that, as that is also what making and sending cards is all about - a big, fat, juicy hug from afar:) So to anyone who has called in today to read this, this is for you - MWAH!

The new challenge at Less is More is a one-layer card, with the theme of Wishing. There were some beautiful inspiration cards posted by the DTs which really got me thinking.  This is what I came up with. I wasn't sure if I would be able to colour with my Zig Clean Colour Real Brush pens onto normal card, but as I wasn't trying to blend any colours (except for the bottle cork) I hoped I would get away with it, as it is a One-Layer challenge!  I think I just managed it, what do you think?  A few splatters over the top of the card, and I was done. I have finally made a card from a Silhouette cut I have had for a while but never used (I lost all my previous purchases when I set up my new computer, so can't say who created this cut) - I'll try to find out later though:( The colour behind the tree has been created with a brand new product (to me) - a couple of colour burst powders by Ken Oliver.  These are magic - spritz with water and watch the powders turn into amazing colours!  Of course, with two new products, I'm definitely going to enter Darnell's 5th NBUS challenge - yay! I should add that the curved sentiment, by Stampin' Up! is also brand new!

This week at Less is More,  Challenge #240  is a colour challenge:  Green and gold.  A previous time this colour combo came up, I patriotically chose an Australian theme, but not this time - I have used a Christmas die for my card. I used the Couture Creations die:  Bubble Christmas Tree, using the negative space as a stencil and gold heat embossing the outline of the tree.  The colour of the embossed 'shadow' unfortunately does not match the die cut Noel - but I was running out of time to search for an alternative.
