Scrapbook Boutique March Challenge and Blog Hop

Welcome once again to Scrapbook Boutique's monthly challenge and blog hop.  You should have arrived here from Angela's amazing blog but if you didn't and want to start at the beginning, just click on the SBB blog link above and start again!

Here is the mood board for March - lots of vibrant colour, texture and pattern in this one - I really love it!

Now to the housekeeping part - if you want to create something or just join in to win, there are two ways you can participate in this challenge and have a chance to win a prize.  You can comment on each blog, ending with the SBB blog, or you can create a project (either a card, scrapbook layout or off the page project) inspired by this photo above.  Of course you can do both for a chance to win both prizes!  Please check out the rules of entry, and the prizes at the Scrapbook Boutique Blog and note that this challenge is open to Australian  and New Zealand residents.

Focussing on colour, I decided to use my alcohol inks, and first prepared a few sheets of Yupo paper using as you can see, lots of yellow, orange and a little green.  These are the sheets, drying - this doesn't take long in our summer heat!

I stamped the tree and leaves images from the MFT stamp set: Tweet Wishes, heat embossed in gold, and cut them out.  This technique was slightly problematic, as the yupo paper is too fine to cope with the heat, so after one disaster, I used Stick-it sheets to adhere my pieces to plain white card before stamping and this meant they coped well with the heat embossing.  I also discovered that archival black ink did not stay put on the paper, so that encouraged me to heat emboss.

I really liked the image of the leaf over the contrasting cement, so used more alcohol inks to create the front panel of my card - silver and gold mixatives were used with lots of rubbing alcohol to encourage them to run freely.  Small areas of shine appear adding lots of texture to this panel.

To finish I heat embossed a sentiment from Altenew's Heartfelt Sentiments and added this as a banner amongst the leaves.

I have since sprayed my card with a fixative, as I would be disappointed to find that some of that beautiful colour 'rubbed off' or smudged.

I have this 'bonus' card for you today - the tree is mounted on striped cork (bought years ago in the US) and those leaves were my first attempt using Versafine Onyx Black ink.  They did smudge a little, but I have managed to get them onto the cream card without too many mishaps.

Now you should hop on over to Linda's blog to find out what she has created to inspire you!

Thanks for visiting and happy crafting!

  9. I really like your background Ann. I struggle a bit with the AI mixatives but your outcome looks great. Did you make that panel with the Yupo as well? Dx

    1. Thank you Di - yes, I did use Yupo for the background panel, not needing to adhere it to regular card as it wasn't going to be heat embossed. I stress I made the AI very runny with plenty of rubbing alcohol - much more so than the coloured panels. The mixatives are rather more solid than the regular AI and they didn't want to blend so much - hence the need to make them runny.
