Words, words and more words ...

I don't know what it is about the latest challenge # 191 at Less is More this week, but each morning I have woken with a new idea in my head.  I will, however, only be entering this first card, but I had fun trying to make my ideas work.  I failed miserably with my final idea this morning, which was to use my Portrait (very new and I have no idea of graphics!!) to create a design which resembled the iPhone app called Word Storm.  I did manage to create an octagon, then a border around it, and then the 8 sections, but when I added the small octagon in the centre, I realised I still did not know how to remove the crossed lines in the centre shape.  Oh dear, back to the drawing board, or to the internet to search for lessons, but I had fun trying to solve my problems.  If anyone reading this could point me in the right direction for good lessons, I would be most grateful.

Now to my actual entry - this is a little 'Itty Bitty' by Unity Stamps Co - heat embossed and sponged with distress inks, then a die cut template of a christmas tree overlaid and the edges sponged to better define the shape.  A few embellishments complete this card of 'Mostly Words'.

My second card was really my first try - same word stamp, but I was initially freer with my distress inks, and the result is a little too messy for my liking.  I decided to die cut the panel (aka mess) with a star framelit by Stampin' Up!, and adhered it to a panel of card stock with stars stencilled in with white ink.  I didn't mind it so much by the time I got to this stage.
Now my 3rd attempt - this word appealed to me as a word that is used so much nowadays, and always seems to have a different meaning.  I stamped the word with an alphabet stamp set, and just added the arrows from a SU punch, as they seemed to add to the concept of which, what, where?  Now if only I had been able to manage that octagon, then there would have been something special to see here!!

  8. I think they are all dazzlers, Ann, and I'm sure glad I'm not deciding on the LIM winner with these in the gallery!! You just keep that octagon idea in your head for future use. I have a couple of ladies in mind that might be able to help you. I will get in touch with them and give them your info. If I don't talk to you again before I leave, have a wonderful time in the States with your daughter and family!! Hugs, Darnell

  9. Hi Ann! Geri here from Dauphin, Manitoba.

Darnell sent me an e-mail & asked if I might be able to help you out. I'm definitely not a whiz when it comes to "Silhouetting" but I have learned a few tricks along the way. Our dear friend Hannellie (http://desertdiva-hannelie.blogspot.ca/) is a whiz on this rig and this was one of the tutorials that she suggested. I'm not sure if it is specifically what you were trying to accomplish, but I think the concept would work. The lady that does these videos (Foto bella) has other tutorials posted as well - all easy to understand!

Hope this helps you out! Happy Silhouetting :)
