Addicted to CAS has turned 2!!

Congratulations to ATCAS who turns 2 this week, with their 52nd challenge being a sketch.

I have simply used a nativity scene die by Precision Cutting Dies bought from Frantic Stamper Inc and kept pretty much to the sketch.  The stitched square is by Lil' Inker and the sentiment from Annabelle Stamps.

On a personal note, I am privileged to be helping to celebrate the 90th birthday of a dear friend and member of our Probus Garden Club.  Heather has a wealth of knowledge about plants and flowers, which she often shares with us all, and we are meeting at my place tomorrow for a little garden party morning tea for her.
I made this banner for her by stencilling letters onto stitched calico flags, and added felt flowers and butterflies and printed a couple of botanical posters.
Heather loves pretty colours, and so I made these rose pots from cardstock, using the Stampin' Up rolled rose die, to decorate the tables.  They were pretty quick to make once I got the hang of it, but I needed a lot more roses than I thought.  A mad dash to my local craft store - Paper Square - minutes before closing one Sunday afternoon, allowed me to finish them off.  I wish I had made more at the time now, but I can only fit two large tables in my family room, so these will be enough.

A lot of cooking was completed before our overseas trip and now just needs to defrost overnight.  Some hot food freshly baked tomorrow morning will complete the preparations, and then I will just enjoy the happy occasion. Oh, here is the card I made - 90 is so special, isn't it?

  1. Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog - I can't usually combine more than one challenge either! I love your take on the challenge - simple but beautiful. And what a lucky friend Heather is, I'm sure she'll appreciate all your hard work.

  2. Beautiful card for Christmas.
Love the flower pots - I might need you to show how to use that die. I can only manage felt whenever I cut from paper it is a mess. More practice perhaps.
Love the banner you have made for Heather. And her birthday card is stunning. The cyclamens look so real. Enjoy celebrating Heather's birthday tomorrow. I visited my gran at the weekend she is 96 and she said "I think I have turned 90". She is starting to forget a little - I suppose by that age you can. Such a great effort.

  3. Hi Vicki - thanks so much for your positive comments. Those flower pots were not difficult to make - using a styrofoam ball, cut in half and covered with green felt, and adhered inside an 11cm flower pot. To use the die, I cut two pieces of card stock - a darker colour and a lighter colour - for each rose. If you have coordination card stock, you can rough it up a bit to show the lighter core. Then manipulate the card stock a little - stretching the fibres, then spray lightly with meth. spirit - to soften. Meth dries quicker than water. Then start rolling with the 2 pieces slightly staggered but together, use tweezers to get started. After a couple of turns, I put a dab of tombow mono multi glue to keep the centre tight, then continue rolling. You won't even need to keep using the tweezers once you've got the centre stuck- just roll using your fingertips - then right at the end, apply glue to both of the flap pieces and stick it down. You can put the rolled rose down on the bench and let it out a little first to make it bigger. Once the flaps are adhered I squash the flower down a little, and place an acrylic block on top till dry. I hope that helps and is not too wordy. I arranged the roses by sticking long pins in each when in place, but I used the hot glue gun and stuck each one down once I knew where they had to be.
